한국화 장르의 이단아로 불리는 추니 박(한국명 박병춘) 작가가 미주지역 첫 개인전을 개최한다. 지난 2월 LA 컨벤션센터에서 열린 LA 아트 쇼에 참가한 EK 갤러리를 통해 선보인 박 작가의 작품은 동양적인 필법과 구도에 서양적인 색감 혼합으로 한국화의 현대적 재해석이라는 평을 받으며 큰 반향을 일으켰다.

박 작가는 1996년 첫 개인전을 연 후 지난 27년 동안 43회 개인전을 개최했다. 그 많은 전시를 통해 풍경을 다양하게 해석하고 해체하고 구성하는 작업을 해왔다.

7개월 만에 미주지역을 다시 찾은 박 작가는 오는 21일부터 내달 11일까지 LA 한인타운 내 EK갤러리에서 역시 화가인 아내 지오 최 작가와 함께 '자연에서부터 (From Nature)'라는 기획 아래 각각 개인전을 연다. 이번 전시 작품은 한국 사계절에서 영감을 얻은 풍경화 작품이 주를 이루고 있다.

추니 박 작가의 '시즌스 오브 메모리' 개인전에는 200호 이상 5점, 100호 이상 5~6점 등 대작 포함 총 40여점이 전시된다. 1층에는 작가가 2018년 존뮤어 레드우드 국립공원을 방문해 영감을 받아 그린 레드우드 수묵화와 호주 울룰루를 다녀와 그린 대작이 전시된다.

박 작가는 “그동안 연구해온 오리지널 작품을 선보인다”며 “LA 거주하는 교민들에게 한국의 변화하는 K 아트와 현대화된 한국화 현주소를 보여주고 싶다”고 밝혔다.

'자연에서부터 (From Nature)'라는 기획 아래 아내 지오 최 작가는 제16회 개인전 '마이 드림 마이 플레이어'를 개최한다. 이번 전시에서는 작가의 대표작 28~30여점의 작품을 선보인다. 개막식은 21일 오후 6시다.

Chunipark and Jio Choi Couple Exhibition From 21st to 11th of next month at EK Gallery

Artist Chunipark (Korean name Park Byung-chun), known as a maverick in the Korean painting genre, is holding his first solo exhibition in the Americas. His works, introduced through EK Gallery at the LA Art Show held at the LA Convention Center last February, have received great acclaim for their modern reinterpretation of Korean painting, blending Eastern brushwork and composition with Western colors.

Since his first solo exhibition in 1996, Park has held 43 solo exhibitions over the past 27 years. Through these numerous exhibitions, he has explored various interpretations, deconstructions, and compositions of landscapes.

Returning to the Americas after seven months, Park will hold individual exhibitions alongside his wife, artist Jio Choi, at EK Gallery in LA's Koreatown from the 21st until the 11th of next month, under the theme 'From Nature'. The works in this exhibition primarily consist of landscape paintings inspired by the four seasons of Korea.

Chunipark's solo exhibition, 'Seasons of Memory,' will feature over 40 works, including 5 large pieces of 200-ho or more and 5-6 pieces of 100-ho or more. The first floor will display large-scale works, including redwood ink paintings inspired by his visit to John Muir Redwood National Park in 2018, and a grand piece depicting Uluru in Australia.

Park stated, "I will be showcasing original works that I have researched over time," adding, "I want to show Korean residents in LA the evolving K-Art and the current state of modernized Korean painting."

Under the theme 'From Nature,' his wife, artist Jio Choi, will hold her 16th solo exhibition, 'My Dream My Player.' This exhibition will feature 28 to 30 of her representative works. The opening reception is on the 21st at 6 PM.
